Loved "Grizzly Man" - I think that was one of the best movies I saw last year. I enjoyed "Crash" while I was watching it, (especially the snow in L.A. scene) but it faded pretty quickly for me. The whole "racist cop saves the life of the woman he molested" thing just seemed a bit too tidy and very Hollywood. (Also liked Cronenberg's Crash because you need a little sickness sometime - I never thought of it as softcore though, there was nothing sexy about it.)

"there's god and satan, hanging at the topless bar. debating evolution and laughing at the passing cars, we go on a road trip down to the swamp of hope, satan laughing on the handle bars, and god dragging on a rope." Greatness.

do we know if the blonde nudie mag chick finished doing the hot arrogant dr guy??? Nope!
Yep, twice in the linen closet. And her name is Izzy and I love her.
What happened when Dr.McDreamy found out his exgirl was now the chick w/ the bomb? And how did Mrs.McDreamy responde to Dr.McDreamy and his possible concern over said exgirl?
Right when he found out, his patient flatlined, so he was a little busy. Later he came downstairs and said, "Where is she? Where is she?" And the head doctor said, "She's right here." And Mrs. Dr. McDreamy ran up to him and hugged him. But Mrs. Head Doctor saw the look on Dr. McDreamy's face and said, "That's not the 'she' he was talking about." And she was right.
Did the husband of the dr survive the brain op?
Yes. And the name of the guy who helped deliver the baby is George and I love him, too.

I love the underdog stories, like the Jamaican bobsled team and the 1980 U.S. hockey team. I was in 8th grade that year and I got really sick for about a month, so I was home from school every day. I watched every single hockey game of that Olympics. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience to watch that last gold medal game live. I still get chills when I think about Al Michaels "Do you believe in miracles?" line and the goalie, Jim Craig(?), with the flag draped over his shoulder, looking for his father in the stands.
And Mary Lou Retton scoring a 10 on the last vault when that's what was needed to win.
The Olympics are about the only time I ever feel nationalistic or patriotic (not sure which is the right word there).

Silence is Golden
by LittleToe inin part this thread is an apology to dansk.. by way of an explanation; about a year ago i posted to someone that they should show little compuncture about lying to a body of elders, since the wts would only apply theocratic warfare to them, and do the same.
dansk (rightly in my opinion) reprimanded me about it, though i uncomfortably defended my position at the time.. well, i was raised better than that.
"two wrongs don't make a right", and lying was never on the agenda in our household.

Excellent post, beautifully written. Wish I had chosen the silent route in a couple of my JCs. The outcomes would probably have been the same, but I might not have such cringe-worthy memories today.

Spelling and grammar why?
by skyman inso many of you feel the need to slam a poster for spelling errors and grammar.
does it make you feel big and smart?
don't assume that you are, for example i have taken two comprehension iq test not the simple internet iq test but the real iq test and have received in detail my break down.

And let's not even get started on the ones who type in all caps, all the time.
I have to admit that I used to be a grammar/spelling snoot. This board helped me overcome that. Now I choose to look at the content of a post instead of how it's delivered, though if the content's ridiculous AND poorly written, fuhgeddaboutit. I still wish people would take ten seconds to read over what they've written before they click Submit.
I didn't take extra English classes nor did I go to college, so that argument doesn't hold. And my daughter has been homeschooled for 14 years and she has better spelling/grammar skills than 90% of the people on this board, so that argument doesn't hold either.

How does Shunning feel?
by DaveNwisconsin injust curious as i had never really been a true jehovah witness.
i would think that you make friends and suddenly you don't exist.
i would think a board like this is a true godsend.

Hemp Lover, what they did to you at your own mother's funeral was unspeakable. Where there any other non witnesses with you to witness that inhuman treatment?
Yes. As horrible as that week was, there were also some wonderful things that happened as well. One of those was reconnecting with my non-JW relatives. They saw what was happening the first day and went above and beyond to lift me up.
I was DF for "loose conduct" and was dumb enaugh to go to the elders for it
I can relate to this. I served myself up on a platter for all my committee meetings, too.

I suspect I have prevented 20 times more people from converting to the religion than I ever got to convert to the religion while I was a JW.
Me, too. Never really thought of it that way before. When I told a coworker what happened at my mom's funeral, she said, "Well, that wasn't a very good witness for Jehovah, was it?" It was like a moment out of an anti-assembly part. Keep fightin' the fine fight, brutha.
